What is weatherization? Weatherization is home improvements done to increase energy efficiency. Typical weatherization measures that are done to homes include: sidewall and attic insulation, caulking and weatherstripping. After a home has been weatherized, energy used for heating is often reduced by an average of 32%.
Job Summary: The Energy Auditor is responsible for accurate evaluation and estimation for materials on homes to be weatherized according to the State Written Plan by the Nebraska Department of Energy and Environment. Work closely with contractors in the weatherization of homes. Responsible for in-progress and final inspections on client homes. Complete computer audit and work orders. Keep a daily log of work activities and trip tickets. Maintain good public relations with clients and contractors. Attend training sessions/meetings as required by the Weatherization Program. Work to achieve Quality Control Inspector (QCI) Certification. Perform all procedures required by the NEO and Weatherization Office such as blower door test, furnace efficiency inspection, CO detection and the initial and final back draft test. Some lifting required. Maintain confidentiality of all participant information and follow Program and Agency standards and policies.
Education & Experience: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. Experience in basic carpentry and basic knowledge of furnaces preferred but will train the right individual. Some bookkeeping and computer skills are helpful. Ability to drive a pickup and trailer. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to comply with the Agency’s auto insurance standards.
Work Schedule: Position is in Pender, NE. This is a full-time position, 4 – 10-hour days M-Th. Daily travel throughout our 14-county service area. Occasional overnight travel could be required for training purposes.
