JOB SUMMARY: The Area Manager is responsible for understanding and monitoring appropriate practices for the Early Head Start Program. Facilitate a process to help staff develop individual plans to improve their environments, teaching practices to support young children’s growth and develop and overall program quality. Be the lead contact in specialty areas such as mental health, family services, disabilities or as assigned. Visit classrooms to ensure children are appropriately supervised and engaged. Complete assigned observations and discuss results with designated teacher. Review and evaluate lesson plans, family goals, observations, education calendars, documentation of home visits, Parent Teacher conferences, and other education records prepared by Teachers. Monitor the Family Service Workers in their progress in conducting and documenting home visits, recording Health Screenings and other records. Be knowledgeable on the Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS) and Teaching Pyramid Infant-Toddler Observation Scale (TIPTOS). Address performance issues and administer corrective action according to policy procedures. Maintain a system of tracking staff performance on a regular basis. Prepare and conduct performance evaluations for relevant staff. Maintain confidentiality of program participants and follow Program and Agency standards and policies.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in early childhood education; or a bachelor’s or advanced degree and coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education with early education teaching experience required.
